President Uhuru Kenyatta has praised Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua after officially opening his new ultra-modern office complex.
The president said he was impressed by Governor Mutua’s new office and the new Machakos International Convention Centre.
Mr Kenyatta who was accompanied by ODM leader Raila Odinga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said Machakos had set the pace for other counties to emulate.
“Well done and congrats Governor Mutua. This is wonderful achievement for building an office that will outlive your administration and generations to come,” said President Kenyatta.
The president was shown around the office after unveiling the commemorative plaque and signed the visitors’ book at the Governor’s office.
Dubbed the “White House” due to its striking white color themes, Governor Mutua’s new seat of power which cost Sh350 million sits on a seven acre piece of land, and is modelled like the American presidential office with East and West wings.
The office boasts of ample parking space and a well-manicured lawn where the president’s entourage of seven helicopters and dozens of cars had parked.
From the front elevation, Dr Mutua’s new seat of power is a replica of State House, Nairobi and is perhaps the most magnificent and advanced governor’s office among the 47 counties.
The Governor hosted President Kenyatta for lunch and private talks that lasted about an hour moments after inaugurating the Machakos International Conventional Centre, at the Machakos People’s Park.
The convention has a sitting capacity of 1000 people, with several offices and a cabinet boardroom.
After the Mr Kenyatta’s entourage including Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka left for the next function at Konza Technopolis, Dr Mutua and the president retreated into the Governor’s office for private talks.
The two stayed for about an hour where they were served with lunch and emerged to join the other leaders at Malili.
Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) were among leaders accompanying the president.
